The American Friends of Meir Medical Center

The mission of American Friends of Meir Medical Center is essential for the development and advancement of Meir Medical Center (MMC). We work to develop and improve inpatient facilities, to acquire technologically advanced medical equipment, and to fund and promote research.

 

Our goal is to raise funds essential for MMC to continue to provide the highest quality healthcare services to its patients and to the community.

About Us

Staffed with highly-skilled U.S. and Europe-trained professionals Meir Medical Center has been recognized as the top hospital in Israel. 

 The American Friends of Meir Medical Center is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, dedicated to supporting and funding the activities of Meir Medical Center in Israel, particularly the Children’s Hospital and pediatric health initiatives. Our national headquarters is in Philadelphia (which covers the entire NE) and we have a branch in Florida.

 
Meir Medical Center with its 750 beds in the central medical center of the Sharon and Shomron area, serving a population of some 800,000 residents from Petah Tikva in the south to Natanya in the North. A number of large cities are included in this area: Ramet Hasharon, Hod Hasharon, Kfar Saba, Herzliya, Raanan, and Natanya, as well as a large number of settlements, villages and cities.


The hospital is a highway junction for the meeting of the Arab and Jewish populations due to its unique capabilities, and as such serves as a local symbol of Arab-Jewish co-existence in the State of Israel.

The Pediatric Wing

The Department of Pediatrics at Meir is the leading comprehensive and professional health care operation in the Sharon region.

Since its inception, the Department of Pediatrics has cared for tens of thousands of babies, children, and teenagers, in the Sharon region, while ensuring excellent standards and maintaining the dignity and safety of patients, providing pleasant inpatient experience in a supportive environment for children and their families.

Meet Our Team

Dr. Yaron Muskat

Director, Meir Medical Center​

Dr. Yaron Muskat – a graduate from Technion’s Faculty of Medicine – is an expert in obstetrics and gynecology as well as medical administration. He also holds a Master cum laude from Tel Aviv University in health systems management.

Muskat served in the IDF’s Armored Corps during the First Lebanon War and later as a brigade doctor and in the Navy’s diving unit.

Between 2001 and 2006, Dr. Muskat served as Meir Hospital’s deputy director. He then went on to become the director of the Sharon Hospital at the Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva and head of the medical department within the hospital division of Clalit Medical Services. With his new appointment as director of Meir Medical Center, Dr. Muskat is also an outstanding pianist.

I would like to express my thanks to the Director of the hospital, who gives the Friends Association in Israel and the United States all the attention and priority it deserves, and I would like to thank the professional staff of the organization (Amuta) and the hospital, who work with dedication, faith, and professionalism for the benefit of the residents of Israel. I feel it is proper to conclude my word for thaking the chariman of the association is Israel, David Ben Bassat, and the chairman of the American association, Jeffrey Perlow. The Honorable Jeffrey M. Perlow

The Honorable Jeffrey M. Perlow

Chairman of the Board, American Friends of Meir Medical Center

Mr. Jefferey Perlow has been a long-time supporter of Israel and Jewish causes in addition to having developed a long-span successful career as a practicing attorney in Florida over 40 years. Currently, he is a partner with the law firm of Fromberg, Perlow & Kornik, P.A. where he is a skilled real property, estate planning, estate and trust administration, wills, and trust attorney.

His political career includes serving as City Commissioner for the City of Aventura from 1996-2001 and as the elected Mayor of the City of Aventura from 2001-2005. Perlow is a fundraiser for various Local, State & National Candidates. Mr. Perlow has been on the board of Marquis Bank since its inception in 2007 and in serving today as the Director & Chairman of the Executive Committee.

He has participated in a variety of professional, trade, and civic activities, including serving on the Board of Trustees of Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, and the Anti-Defamation League. He has also served as Vice President of Aventura-Turnberry Jewish Center and is a recipient of the Guardian of Judaism Award, as well as served as Chairman, Board of Education, Tauber School, Aventura, Florida.

He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of American Friends of Meir Medical Center, where he brings his vast knowledge and experience in many professional areas to bear.

The Honorary Vice Chairman Steve Collis

Honorary Vice Chairman, American Friends of Meir Medical Center

Steve Collis has been President and Chief Executive Officer of AmerisourceBergen Corporation since July 2011. He has held a variety of other positions with AmerisourceBergen and its predecessors since 1994. He is currently a director of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers. As the Chief Executive Officer of AmerisourceBergen, Mr. Collis brought to the Board extensive business and operating experience in the wholesale pharmaceutical distribution industry, knowledge, of AmerisourceBergen and its history and significant executive leadership experience at AmerisourceBergen.

Mr. Collis has a deep understanding and knowledge of the healthcare distribution and services market and understands the competitive nature of the pharmaceutical distribution business. Mr. Collis has demonstrated strategic vision, strong creativity and entrepreneurial and leadership skills throughout his tenure at AmerisourceBergen.

Collis, who is the Honorary Vice Chairman of American Friends of Meir Medical Center, recently reflected “For me, personally, it was most exciting to see the footprint of the new ICU that we have worked hard to help update and modernize. It was explained to us that by instituting this new ICU, hundreds of lives could be saved in the first year alone and potentially thousands in the future.
